Recently I had the chance to ask Mike, who is a long time friend and a stellar guitarist from Pittsburgh, PA, some questions about his music and influences.

He is currently playing in the band, Full Color, with fellow guitarist and friend, TJ Fennel.

Now onto the questions:

  • How would you describe Full Color’s sound? Watching the documentary, 1991: the Year Punk Broke too many times describes our sound
  • How long has it been around? TJ and I have been writing songs for nearly a decade
  • What kind of guitar do you play? Eastwood Hi-Flyer
  • What kind of distortion/fuzz/overdrive pedals do you use? ProCoDuece Tone Rat Overdrive/Distortion.
  • What kind of amp/setup do you have? I have a Laney TF320 Tube Fusion 2×12 (200 watts) and a Sun Concert Lead Head (200 watts) that I run simultaneously through the Morley ABY selector switch. The Sun Concert Lead is plugged into a Fender cabinet.
  • Do you have a favorite effects pedal? The Line 6 delay modeler, the Line 6 Filter Modulator and the MXR Blue Box, which is a octave/fuzz pedal that my friend Ross has modified. He added a feedback loop.
  • How would you describe your playing style? indie guitar swing
  • Favorite band/album of all time? Nirvana-In Utero
  • Current favorite band/album? Neil Young-After the Gold Rush
  • How long have you been a musician? 10 or so years, when did we start playing dude? I’d say we were musicians when we started in 5th grade cuz we wrote legit songs and recorded them.
  • What/who were your main inspirations or influences musically?Weed, CCR, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Beatles, Wipers, Nirvana, Neil Young, Deerhoof, Unwound, Television
