Danelectro Overdrive Pedal Review

Written by admin on June 15, 2009 – 1:45 pm -

In this review, I’m going to be checking out the Danelectro Cool Cat Series CTO-1 Transparent Overdrive pedal for the guitar. This is a really great pedal and it performs like a pedal 3 times its price (You can find it new on EBay for around 20-30 bucks). The CTO-1 has a pretty solid construction. It has a metal casing, and also metal jacks. It felt sturdy when I played it, and the foot switch seemed very responsive. It has control knobs for volume, treble/bass and gain. A nice feature of these knobs is that they are out of the way when playing, because they are located on the top of the pedal, as opposed to the front. This pedal does a great job at delivering classic, warm over driven tones, without sacrificing any of the natural tones... more

Written by admin on May 26, 2009 – 3:38 pm -

In this distortion pedal review, I am going to be taking a look at the Blackstar HT Series HT-DRIVE pedal. This pedal is definitely one of the warmest sounding tube overdrive pedals that I have ever played. If you love the sound of an overdriven guitar, then this is the perfect pedal for you. It’s genuine tube design offers tones ranging from a warm boost, to a really nice rocking crunch sound. The HT-Drive’s A-Class tone control ensures that your playing never appears dull, or diminished by the pedal. Tube Power: The HT-Drive boasts pure tube overdrive power. Written by admin on February 14, 2009 – 5:13 am -

It’s always cool to learn about the gear fellow musicians are using. It can help spark some new ideas, or introduce you to a piece of musical equipment you were previously unaware of. I’ll start the discussion off by listing my pedal board lineup, and if anyone wants to chime in, feel free to post your replys in the comment section. Distortion/Overdrive Boss MT-2 Metal Zone – Provides heavy distortion with high gain, and has extensive EQ controls that allow for advanced sound shaping. Boss SD-1 Super Over Drive - This pedal produces a warm sounding tone similar to an over driven, vintage tube amp. It is great because it retains the nuances of your picking style even when playing on a high drive setting. Electro-Harmonix... more

Distortion Pedal Review – Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer

Written by admin on January 29, 2009 – 7:20 pm -

Most guitar players view this as being one of the best distortion pedals around. It is a reissue of the classic Tube Screamer, and is made of many of the same components, and shares the same tonal qualities as the original. This tone of course is best described as some serious overdrive. The Ibanez TS9 comes equipped with tone, drive and level controls to help shape its distinctive sound. The Ibanez Tube Screamer provides really nice, crisp sounds that will work with any guitar and amp setup you could imagine. It makes it sounds like you are playing through a vintage Tube Amp cranked on overdrive. It really performs great at what it does, and it should definitely be the next addition to your setup. it is built quite solidly and looks like... more

Distortion Pedal Review – BOSS SD-1 – Super Overdrive Pedal

Written by admin on January 26, 2009 – 7:09 pm -

This Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive pedal has been in my setup for nearly 10 years now, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. This pedal came out in the mid-80s, and the tones that this pedal produces are really something else. It  provides a warm, smooth overdriven sound that makes it sound like you’re playing through a classic Tube amp. The great thing about this pedal is that it maintains your picking nuances while playing, even while played on the highest drive setting. Overall Quality: The Boss-SD1 Super Overdrive pedal is practically bullet proof. It has a heavy steel casing, solid feeling control knobs, tight fitting input jacks and a sturdy rubber base. I have never had an issue with anything malfunctioning on this unit since... more
